9 Fashion Trends of 2023 that are expected to become BIG FASHION TRENDS OF 2024
Though it’s hard to guarantee what the future will bring, as the New Year begins, we put our fashion-o-scope on, and retrospect on what has been and foresee what might be in the tales of fashion, putting on a pin on 9 fashion trends we loved in 2023, or saw glimpses of, and can expect to experience as THE BIG FASHION TRENDS OF 2024.
Sparkle is very much in, and it has been increasingly versatile, as it adapts in a refreshing way. High on shine, the trend has been going beyond the evening gowns and chic mini-skirts, and it has been lovely to see Indian Bollywood Celebrities donning bedazzled sarees in hues other than silver and blue, delightfully including pink. The shimmery trend has come to be the picture of grace and elan. It has been repeatedly seen on the runways in India and abroad. Evidently designers are just beginning to play with it, and fashionistas don’t seem to get enough of it, and we can expect to see the magic of the shiny look a lot more round-the-clock, on the street, and even at work places, on unprecedented textures, designed in unimaginable cuts.
Plus, Plus, Plus, Please
We saw women donning the oversized shirts, t-shirts, hoodies & blazers, crop tops, with baggy jeans and cargoes in personalized ways. The trend which has been slightly nostalgic of the 80s when BIG was all the rage, is the element of great comfort which has been the reason for breaking the conventional rules of fashion while anchoring a chic ensemble, be it a punk look or a got-deadlines-to-meet look, or a i-love-me-and-my-life look. The idea of oversized brings a twist to the basic and the boring, one that fashionistas have been hooked to, and we might see it played in creative ways, for example, when any regular, symmetrical dress silhouette will get a new look with oversized juliette sleeves, bell sleeves or batwing sleeves.
Business is in Season
Blazers on baggy jeans, as well as, on ruffled gowns, even on sarees, has been the go-to, ready-for-paparazzi look in 2023, and in view of its utility value of conveying that “I am here, as myself, doing what I love, having fun and I am serious about it”, especially as new species of entrepreneurs keep emerging, we expect the trend to take a seat in everyday scenarios, sharing a style inspiration with the streets of Paris.
Colour a Block or Two, or Three, or More
Colour-blocked garments have been emerging on the block, and we can look forward to seeing clean, colour-blocked shirts and dresses in our offices, on flights, and at soirees. Be it a colourful choc-a-block or an outstanding black and white, we have seen in history how well colour-blocked pieces work for a person. As a cousin trend of colour-blocking, we might also see a lot of wonderful gowns with negative spaces outlined with nature-inspired embellishments or geometric blocks, creating an ethereal or outlandish effect.
Space for the Future
Future is the buzzword, and science-fiction is the muse, as abstract future inspired styles become more wearable, as much as the smart wearables. The high-tech and interstellar inspired graphics, the regal, futuristic, hyper realistic textures and cuts, with concentric spirals of shoulder-crowns, and wide-open neck lines, clean, minimalistic design, cinched together with a piece of silver or gold are very much making a mark in haute couture wear. The Indian version of the future inspired fashion is a compressed, utilitarian design of the traditional Indian drapes of a saree, highlighting the motifs of ancient history and culture of India, with glimpses of objects found in space like high-tech space ships.
Tale of the Waist
The waist accentuating Peplum tops over all kinds of trousers including the patialas and the ghararas, and even over sarees, have been catching the attention, with their innovative possibilities including the corset peplums, and off-shoulder and high-neck cuts—it’s not a surprise as they work wonders for the Indian Female Body Type of hourglass figure, and we think the trend will become bigger in 2024.
K-Pants—No Drama, Only Style
While the x-factor about the Korean culture which has taken to the obsession of us Indians remains a mystery, following the rage of K-Dramas, come the Korean Pants to swoon our hearts and take our style quotient to the next level. The flowy texture, the wearability for work and travels alike, or to just have a cup of coffee at a relaxing cafe is very much expected to dominate the apparel racks, and online billboards, as they look fabulous with tees and oversized shirts, and boots and hefty sports shoes alike.
Slow, Handmade, Crocheted
A symptom for the rising love of everything handmade and homemade, preferably in a cottage, as a result of slow living, is the rise of the crochet in what we wear everyday. We can expect to see crochet going beyond beachwear and winter wear, or concert wear, and make people look twice on the streets, or at the dinner table as the crochet adapts into body-fit dresses and chic tops that will look fabulous with those Korean pants.
There was a time when floral prints had brought a refreshing wave to the fashion canvas, and it was followed with prints of pop culture, and animal prints woke up from sleepwear and hopped to day wear. As we slowly move into the Age of Aquarius, it is fascinating to see psychedelic prints and motifs and patterns on clothes, considering the time of counterculture during the late 60s and the 70s were the Age of Aquarius. We can expect a lot of clothes on the racks with kaleidoscopic, surrealistic, fantastically fractal prints, prints showcasing full colour spectrums, concentric circles, and morphing of colours and objects, besides paisleys and phosphenes. Whichever psychedelic pattern you might choose, it will fit right in, in the age of information and mind expansion.
