Cinemas and OTT Platforms Gear Up for a Packed Week of Releases (Sept 29 – Oct 5, 2025)

The first week of October 2025 brings a diverse lineup of cinemas and OTT premieres, offering audiences a wide mix of genres across languages. From major Bollywood titles to regional dramas and global OTT series, entertainment enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to.

Theatrical Releases

On the Hollywood front, The Smashing Machine hits theatres in India on October 2, while James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is returning for a limited one-week re-release starting October 3, exclusively in IMAX formats.

Bollywood is led by the much-anticipated release Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (October 3), marking the week’s prime Hindi film debut. Meanwhile, the Kannada blockbuster franchise expands with Kantara – A Legend Chapter 1, arriving in its original language as well as a Hindi-dubbed version.

Regional cinema is also strongly represented. Marathi audiences get Vada Paav, while Telugu cinema adds three new titles — Erracheera, Idli Kottu, and Mutton Soup. Tamil films include Idli Kadai and Maria, alongside the Kannada-language Kantara release. Bengali, Gujarati, and Malayalam cinemas, however, see no new entries this week.

OTT Series & Shows

Streaming platforms are rolling out high-profile shows starting October 1. Sony LIV premieres 13th – Some Lessons Aren’t Taught in Classrooms in Hindi.

Netflix dominates the lineup with a strong slate of international series:

  • The Game – You Never Play Alone (Tamil, Oct 2)
  • Dudes (English, Oct 2)
  • Winx Club – The Magic Is Back S1 (English, Oct 2)
  • Genie, Make a Wish S1 (English, Oct 3)
  • Monster – The Ed Gein Story (English, Oct 3, limited series)
  • Old Dog, New Tricks (Spanish, Oct 3)
  • The New Force S1 (Swedish, Oct 3)
  • Rurouni Kenshin S2 (Japanese anime, Oct 4)

Apple TV+ adds a fantasy touch with The Sisters Grimm (Oct 2).

OTT Original Films

The week begins with Netflix’s documentary Nightmares of Nature – Cabin in the Woods (Sept 30), followed by Steve (Oct 3). Amazon Prime Video releases Play Dirty (Oct 1), while Apple TV+ counters with The Lost Bus (Oct 3).

Theatrical-to-OTT Premieres

Among direct-to-digital premieres, Amazon Prime brings the Tamil film Madharaasi on October 1.
