Drishyam 3 set for April release amid mounting anticipation

The highly anticipated third instalment of the Drishyam franchise is edging closer to its big-screen debut, with the makers confirming that Drishyam 3 will be released in theatres on 2 April. The announcement, shared by lead actor Mohanlal on social media, has sent fans into a frenzy as they await the next chapter in one of Indian cinema’s most beloved crime thrillers.

Directed and written by Jeethu Joseph, this Malayalam-language thriller continues the story of Georgekutty, the unassuming family man whose ingenuity and resilience have defined the series since its inception in 2013. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner, bringing back much of the original cast, including Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil, alongside Mohanlal.

The franchise has enjoyed enduring popularity due to its tightly woven plotlines and emotional depth, and Drishyam 3 promises to uphold that reputation. While specific narrative details remain tightly under wraps, recent leaks and fan discussions suggest a fresh twist, with some theories pointing to deeper psychological challenges for Georgekutty rather than the external threats that featured in earlier films.

Beyond the Malayalam original, the Drishyam phenomenon has spawned multiple adaptations in other languages. Notably, the Hindi version, starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran, is scheduled for theatrical release on 2 October 2026, a date that holds special significance within the saga of the Hindi remakes.

In recent weeks, there has also been noteworthy buzz around the franchise on other fronts. The film’s substantial pre-release business has already crossed ₹350 crore, according to producer Ranjith, reflecting strong confidence in the film’s box-office potential even before it hits cinemas.

Meanwhile, off-screen developments continue to fuel conversation. Reports have circulated about cast changes in the Hindi version following the exit of Akshaye Khanna, with questions arising about creative differences and his remuneration demands, a matter that has generated considerable buzz among fans and industry observers alike.

Amid the excitement surrounding the film itself, some of the actors involved in Drishyam 3 have also found themselves in the spotlight for unrelated reasons. Veteran actress Meena, who reprises her role in the series, recently addressed and dismissed unfounded rumours about her personal life, urging respect for her family amid the speculation.

With the official release date now confirmed and anticipation building, all eyes will be on Drishyam 3 this April. The film’s blend of suspense, emotional stakes and franchise legacy has cemented its status as one of the most eagerly awaited Indian films of 2026.
