Films and OTT releases this week: 18–24 August
This week brings an exciting mix of films in cinemas and new shows on streaming platforms. Here is a look at what audiences can expect
Theatrical releases
On 22 August 2025, several Hollywood films are set to hit cinemas. These include Nobody 2, Relay, Bring Her Back, and Witchboard, the last of which has a tentative release date as per the distributor.
Bollywood does not have any major or non-prime releases scheduled this week. Similarly, there are no new Hindi-dubbed prime films or re-releases planned.
Regional cinema offers a variety of options. Marathi audiences can enjoy Better Half Chi Love Story. Gujarati viewers will see a re-release of Vash. Malayalam films The Case Diary and Thalavara are coming to screens, while Telugu cinema presents Meghalu Cheppina Prema Katha, Tribanadhari Barbarik, and Paradha. Tamil audiences can watch Indra. Kannada cinema will release five films: Kamarottu 2, Just Married, Love Matteru, Son of Muthanna, and Hacche. There are no new Bengali releases this week.
OTT platform releases
Netflix offers a busy week of TV shows and movies. Series releases include CoComelon Lane S5, Extant S1 & S2, America’s Team – The Gambler and His Cowboys, Fisk S3, Death Inc. S3, Hostage, Aema, Long Story Short, and Bon Appetit, Your Majesty. Original movies include Fall for Me (German), Gold Rush Gang (Thai), Abandoned Man (Turkish), and The Truth About Jussie Smollett? (English).
On JioStar, viewers can watch Stalking Samantha – 13 Years of Terror, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, Peacemaker S2, and the original movie Eenie Meanie. Z5 is releasing Shodha (Kannada) and Aamar Boss (Bengali). AppleTV+ brings Invasion S3.
Several films are also coming to OTT platforms directly from theatres. Netflix will stream Maa (Hindi) and Maareesan (Tamil). Amazon Prime will release Thalaivan Thalaivii (Tamil).
