IFFI 2025 to Honour Nandamuri Balakrishna for 50 Years in Indian Cinema

The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to pay a special tribute to legendary Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, marking his 50 years in Indian cinema. The honour will be presented during the festival’s grand Opening Ceremony on 20 November, making it one of the key highlights of the event.

Organised by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in partnership with the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and the Government of Goa, IFFI 2025 aims to celebrate India’s cinematic achievements while recognising artists who have shaped the industry. This year, Balakrishna’s golden jubilee stands at the heart of the celebrations.

Affectionately known as ‘Balayya’ by his devoted fans, Balakrishna is respected for his powerful acting, strong dialogue delivery and unmatched screen presence. Over the past five decades, he has acted in more than 100 films, covering a wide range of genres from action and drama to mythological epics. A Padma Bhushan awardee and winner of three Nandi Awards, he is considered one of the pillars of Telugu cinema.

The Opening Ceremony will be a colourful spectacle, featuring cultural performances, artistic floats and creative tableaux. Production houses, state cultural groups and artistic troupes will take part, showcasing India’s rich traditions and the magic of its storytelling. The ceremony aims to reflect the spirit of Indian cinema—diverse, vibrant and deeply rooted in culture.

Balakrishna’s contribution goes far beyond films. Continuing the legacy of his father, the legendary N. T. Rama Rao, he has played a major role in public service as a three-time MLA from Hindupur. He is also the Chairman of Basava Tarakam Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad, where he has supported cancer treatment and research for many years. His service in healthcare and his commitment to social welfare have earned him widespread respect.

The felicitation at IFFI 2025 is seen as a proud moment for Telugu cinema, honouring not just an actor but a cultural icon whose influence has touched millions. The recognition celebrates Balakrishna’s lasting legacy and his extraordinary journey of five decades in Indian cinema.
