Restored Classic In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones to Premiere at 76th Berlinale
A newly restored version of In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones is set to have its world premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, also called Berlinale, on 16 February. The screening will take place at 7:00 pm at the Akademie der Künste, marking a major international showcase for the beloved 1989 film.
Directed by Pradip Krishen and written by acclaimed author Arundhati Roy, the film has been restored by the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF). The restoration is part of the Foundation’s continued efforts to preserve and celebrate India’s cinematic legacy by presenting landmark works to global audiences in renewed visual and sound quality.
Originally released in 1989, In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones has long enjoyed cult status. Set in a Delhi architecture college, the film follows a group of final-year students grappling with academic challenges, youthful friendships and uncertain futures. Known for its sharp humour, natural performances and realistic portrayal of campus life, the film remains a significant work in India’s independent cinema movement.
The Berlinale premiere will be presented by director Pradip Krishen, who will attend the screening alongside FHF Director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur. Their presence underscores the importance of the restoration and the film’s enduring relevance more than three decades after its original release.
In addition to the premiere, two further screenings have been scheduled as part of the festival programme. These will take place on 17 February at 12:00 pm and on 20 February at 7:00 pm, both at Cubix 5, another official Berlinale venue. The multiple screenings highlight the festival’s recognition of the film’s cultural and historical significance.
The Berlin International Film Festival, now in its 76th year, is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading film festivals. By featuring this restored classic, the 2026 edition once again demonstrates its commitment not only to contemporary cinema but also to the preservation and celebration of important works from film history.
The world premiere of In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones is expected to draw significant interest from international audiences, offering a new generation the opportunity to rediscover a distinctive and much-loved chapter of Indian cinema.
