Japanese Film Festival to return across eight Indian cities in 2025–26
The Japanese Film Festival (JFF), one of India’s most popular cultural film events, is set to return with its 2025–26 edition. Organised by the Japan Foundation, the festival will bring a wide range of Japanese films to audiences in eight cities across India—Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Noida, and Kolkata. The screenings will run from December 2025 to January 2026, offering film lovers nearly two months of exciting cinematic experiences.
Since its debut in India in 2017, JFF has grown into a beloved platform that introduces Japanese cinema to a wider Indian audience. Each year, the festival showcases a carefully selected mix of genres, such as emotional dramas, classic masterpieces, light-hearted comedies, inspiring stories, and globally renowned anime. The festival’s main aim is to promote cultural understanding and strengthen the warm relationship between India and Japan by sharing the depth and creativity of Japanese storytelling.
The 2025–26 edition brings an impressive lineup of films. Iconic titles like AKIRA offer a blend of action and futuristic vision, while heartfelt films like PETALS AND MEMORIES and THE BOY AND THE DOG promise moving emotional journeys. Exciting films such as SHOWTIME 7 and ANGRY SQUAD: The Civil Servant and the Seven Swindlers add fun and adventure to the mix. The festival also includes titles like Sunset Sunrise, 366 DAYS, 6 Lying University Students, and the much-loved anime Teasing Master Takagi-san. With such a varied collection, the festival ensures that every viewer—whether a long-time fan of Japanese cinema or a first-time explorer—will find something to enjoy.
All screenings will take place at PVR INOX cinemas, giving audiences the chance to watch these films with high-quality sound and visuals. This setting helps preserve the authentic big-screen experience that filmmakers intend.
