Kiara Advani career hits rough patch, pins hopes on Toxic
Kiara Advani, once considered one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood, is going through a tough phase in her career, and the character choices, she pins all her hopes on Toxic directly by Geetu Mohandas. Despite regularly securing projects alongside top heroes, the actress has struggled to deliver a solid box-office blockbuster in recent years.
Her latest release, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, was expected to revive her fortunes. However, the film’s opening reviews proved disappointing, and while the movie collected around ₹200 crore in its first weekend, trade analysts note that collections slowed sharply from Monday onwards.
This setback follows a string of underwhelming performances. After Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which brought her moderate success, Kiara has faced mostly failures. Her much-hyped film Game Changer, directed by Shankar and co-starring Ram Charan, was widely anticipated but ended up as a major disaster, leaving not just the lead actors but also Kiara disheartened. Reports even suggest that she turned down a role in Devara for Game Changer, a decision that now seems costly.
Other films such as Jugjugg Jeeyo, Govinda Naam Mera and Satyaprem Ki Katha also failed to achieve blockbuster status, adding to her career woes. Critics argue that while she continues to work with big stars and prominent filmmakers, the weak scripts she has chosen have limited her impact on screen.
The actress’s role in War 2 was appreciated to an extent, but the film once again highlighted the importance of strong writing. Industry watchers suggest that Kiara may now need to rethink her strategy and choose projects with more substantial content, even if that means stepping away from only chasing big names. Comparisons are being drawn with versatile performers like Nithya Menen and Sai Pallavi, who have built their reputations by prioritising meaningful roles over glamour and star value.
At this crucial juncture, all eyes are on Toxic, her upcoming film with KGF star Yash. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the movie has already been delayed several times but is being positioned as a major pan-India release. For Kiara, Toxic could prove to be the much-needed turning point in her career.
