Mohit Suri apologises to Vanga for not supporting him during the heavy criticism of Animal. In a recent interview, the Aashiqui 2 director said he deeply admired Sandeep Reddy Vanga and now regrets staying silent when the director was being targeted.
Vanga, who rose to fame with Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and Animal, is now seen as a strong pan-India filmmaker. His intense storytelling, bold direction, and emotionally charged films have made him a household name. Animal, despite facing backlash for its violent content, collected over ₹880 crore, making it one of the most talked-about films in India.
However, the film’s high level of violence and portrayal of women drew criticism. Some even labelled Vanga as misogynistic. Earlier, director Anurag Kashyap had also criticised him, but after meeting Vanga, Kashyap praised his honesty and talent, calling him a rare kind of director.
Now, Mohit Suri has followed a similar path. He said that although he loved Animal, he stayed quiet during the controversy. “I should have spoken up. Not standing by him was my mistake,” Suri admitted. He also added, “Sandeep is an honest and determined filmmaker. I respect him a lot and I’m now a fan.”
Suri’s comments reflect a shift in how Bollywood views Vanga. While many may not speak publicly, it’s clear that Vanga has earned the respect of top filmmakers. His films may divide opinions, but they also spark deep discussions—a sign of impactful cinema.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, once seen as a controversial figure, is now being recognised for his raw and fearless storytelling. With support from directors like Mohit Suri and Anurag Kashyap, his influence in Indian cinema continues to grow.
