Param Sundari Review: A love story that struggles to find Its soul
Plot overview
Param (Sidharth Malhotra), son of a wealthy businessman (Sanjay Kapoor), dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur but repeatedly fails in his ventures. When introduced to a dating app called Find My Soulmate, he decides to try it out himself after his father refuses to support the project. The app pairs him with Sundari Damodharan Pillai (Janhvi Kapoor), a woman from Kerala. The story unfolds as Param tries to win her over, with the narrative exploring their evolving relationship.
Performances
Janhvi Kapoor shines throughout, bringing charm and warmth to Sundari. She carries herself with confidence and a touch of grace reminiscent of her mother’s legacy. On the other hand, Sidharth Malhotra’s performance feels inconsistent, especially in the first half, where his portrayal of Param comes across as forced and unconvincing. The chemistry between the two leads occasionally clicks, but it often feels scripted rather than organic. Happy to see real Malayalam actors like Anand Manmadhan Renji Panicker. Anand Manmadhan although a small space it was good to bring the real deal for the set up of the cinema.
Writing and characterization
The biggest flaw lies in the writing. Sundari’s attraction to Param feels shallow and poorly justified, hinting at the idea of him being “different” or “new.” This raises questions about the longevity and depth of their bond, if novelty is the only hook, what happens when it fades? Such weak characterization undermines the emotional core of the story.
Cinematic experience
The second half manages to redeem the film slightly, with stronger emotional beats and an authentic portrayal of Kerala’s culture and landscape. The film begins to feel more grounded, though it doesn’t fully recover from the shaky start. Still, the cultural detailing adds richness and texture that the first half sorely lacks.
Last word
Param Sundari review: Param Sundari attempts to be a heartfelt romantic drama but falls short of delivering a convincing love story. While Janhvi Kapoor elevates the film with her presence, the narrative lacks purpose and emotional depth. By the end, one is left wondering what the film truly wanted to say about love, relationships, or even self-discovery.
