Ethanol Blending Gains Momentum

From April 1, 2026, it became mandatory for oil companies to sell petrol with ethanol blends of up to 20%, with a minimum Research Octane Number (RON) of 95.
The ethanol blending initiative aims to reduce dependency on imported crude oil, support domestic ethanol production from sugarcane and other biomass, and lower environmental emissions. Government reports indicate that nearly 20% ethanol has already been blended nationwide, generating foreign exchange savings and providing additional income for farmers.
Public Response and Vehicle Considerations
