Saloni Batra on portraying emotion amid the unseen in Bhay: The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery

Amazon MX Player’s latest paranormal thriller, Bhay: The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery, delves into the enigmatic life and untimely death of Gaurav Tiwari, widely regarded as India’s first paranormal investigator. Streaming for free exclusively on Amazon MX Player, the series blends investigative drama with the emotional weight of belief, loss and unanswered questions.

Headlined by Karan Tacker as Gaurav Tiwari and Kalki Koechlin as Irene, the investigator probing his mysterious passing, the show explores the personal costs of confronting the unknown. Adding a vital human dimension to the narrative is Saloni Batra, who plays Megha, a character rooted in emotional truth amid the show’s supernatural undertones.

Speaking about what drew her to the role, Saloni Batra said Megha represents the emotional core of the series. “In a story filled with the supernatural, Megha represents emotional reality, love, concern, fear and strength,” she shared. “What fascinated me was her entire arc, from being a believer to walking Gaurav’s journey alongside him, and then dealing with what comes after.”

Megha’s journey mirrors the turbulence faced by those closest to individuals who live on the edge of danger and belief. Left to navigate profound grief and uncertainty, the character anchors the series in lived human experience rather than spectacle alone.

Batra noted that the show’s inspiration from real events added significant depth to her performance. Reflecting on the responsibility of portraying a character connected to a real-life story, she said, “The fact that this story is inspired by real life made it even more layered and personal. It wasn’t just about playing a role, but honouring someone’s lived experience.”

The actor also spoke about her on-screen dynamic with Karan Tacker, describing their collaboration as instinctive and grounded. “The chemistry with Karan came very naturally. He’s extremely present as an actor, which makes it easy to respond truthfully,” she explained, adding that shared emotional understanding off-screen translated seamlessly into their performances.

With its blend of investigation, emotion and the paranormal, Bhay: The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery invites viewers to question what lies beyond the visible, and the toll such exploration can take. The series is now streaming for free on Amazon MX Player across multiple platforms, including the MX Player app, Prime Video, Fire TV and Airtel Xstream.
