Actress Sanjana Sanghi is celebrating a special moment—five years since her lead role debut in the emotional film Dil Bechara. Released on 24 July 2020, the film quickly captured hearts and made Sanjana a household name. It also starred the late Sushant Singh Rajput and was directed by Mukesh Chhabra, who was also making his directorial debut.

Dil Bechara was based on the popular novel The Fault in Our Stars. Sanjana played Kizie, a girl living with a chronic illness. Her performance was praised for being gentle and real, and her chemistry with Sushant made the love story even more touching.

Reflecting on the journey, Sanjana shared how her first day on set was unforgettable. “It was the scene where Kizie says, ‘I hate Sandesh.’ I had spent a year preparing—learning her Bengali dialect, her illness, and her life in Jamshedpur. But nothing truly prepares you for being a lead actor,” she said. “Though I’d been on sets since I was 13, this role came with a huge responsibility. Mukesh and Sushant guided me through it all.”

Sanjana also spoke about her bond with director Mukesh Chhabra. “Dil Bechara was a unique double debut for both of us. Mukesh had spotted me back in school in 2010 and cast me in Rockstar. So, when he chose me again for his first film as a director, it meant the world. There was fear and uncertainty, but sharing our firsts created something truly special on set.”

As fans and the film industry look back, Dil Bechara remains an emotional and powerful debut. Sanjana’s heartfelt performance continues to be remembered as the start of a promising journey in Indian cinema.
