Star Kids struggle to impress as outsiders shine

Star kids

In the Indian film industry, debates around nepotism and the insider-outsider divide continue without end. Many star kids—children of famous actors—are finding it difficult to carry forward their family legacy.

While nobody expects perfection in a debut film, audiences now notice that some star kids are not even putting in basic effort. Be it dancing, action, or acting, there seems to be a lack of hard work. Even in terms of appearance or style, there’s no sign of creativity or freshness.

Actresses like Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, daughters of legendary actress Sridevi, received criticism for not connecting with audiences through their performances. Similarly, Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday looked good on screen but took years to improve their acting skills.

More recent newcomers such as Aman Devgan, Rasha Thadani, and Shanaya Kapoor are facing the same issue. Although Rasha showed some effort in dance, fans felt her acting did not match the level of her mother, Raveena Tandon.

Saif Ali Khan’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, was also disappointed with his debut. Critics said he neither acted convincingly nor attempted to show dancing skills.

Unlike earlier generations, many Gen Z star kids seem unprepared and undertrained. They often lack theatre or TV experience and come across as plastic-faced, with weak expressions and no emotional depth.

Film experts argue that a few families continue to dominate the industry, making it harder for outsiders to enter. However, actors like Kartik Aaryan, Vikrant Massey, and Ayushmann Khurrana—who came from outside the industry—have become inspirations. They worked hard across different platforms before entering films, taking years to build their craft.

Interestingly, the new film Siyaraa surprised everyone. The lead pair, Ahaan Panday (a star kid) and Anith Padha, impressed audiences. Ahaan, unlike others, showed dedication and skill, while Anith won hearts with both her beauty and acting. Compared to most star kids, they received high praise.
