Born on July 10, 1942, in the modest village of Kankipadu in present-day Andhra Pradesh, Rao’s early life suggested a path far removed from the film industry. Son of a doctor, he initially aspired to become one himself. But destiny had different plans. The stage beckoned during his college days, and the spark of performance soon grew into a life-defining fire. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree and working as a bank employee, he eventually surrendered to his calling—acting.

Kota Srinivasa Rao made his film debut in 1978 with Pranam Khareedu, and there was no looking back.
