Vaani Kapoor enters web series World with Mandala murders

Vaani Kapoor

Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor, who made her debut with Shuddh Desi Romance, is now stepping into the world of web series. Even after 12 years in the film industry, Vaani hasn’t quite reached star status. She has acted in only around seven to eight films so far, making her career progress seem quite slow.

While she hasn’t completely disappeared from the industry, major opportunities with big stars have been rare. However, she continues to stay active with some projects in hand. Now, she is taking on a new role in the upcoming web series Mandala Murders, where she will play a detective chasing criminals.

Speaking about her journey, Vaani shared some personal insights. “People always say I’m too skinny and that I can’t gain weight. But I like myself this way. I feel healthy and fit, and I don’t want to change my body just to please others,” she said.

She also opened up about the challenges she faced in Bollywood. “It’s not easy to make a name here, especially for newcomers. I always dreamed of becoming a big heroine and thought talent alone would be enough. But I learnt that beauty and skin tone also matter a lot,” she revealed.

Vaani recalled how, early in her career, a director rejected her for a role—not because of her acting, but because her skin was not “milky white.” She wasn’t told directly but later learnt the reason. “That’s when I realised that in this industry, looks can matter just as much as talent. But I don’t believe this is always true—every director and producer thinks differently,” she added.

With Mandala Murders, Vaani hopes to show a new side of herself and take her career in a fresh direction.
