Vijay in Talks Over Rs 250 Crore Divorce Settlement After Wife’s Petition
Tamil cinema superstar and political leader Vijay is reportedly seeking an out-of-court resolution in his high-profile divorce case with wife Sangeetha Sornalingam, amid unconfirmed media reports that he has offered a settlement worth around ₹250 crore as alimony.
The developments follow Sangeetha’s divorce petition filed late last month in the Chengalpattu Family Court, where she is understood to have accused Vijay of an extramarital relationship with an unnamed actress, allegations that have neither been confirmed nor denied in official statements. The pair have been married for nearly 27 years and have two children: son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha.
According to multiple media reports, Vijay is keen to avoid prolonged litigation and the public scrutiny that comes with it, preferring to settle matters privately with Sangeetha and their children. Negotiations are described as delicate, with legal representatives working to iron out terms that preserve family dignity and privacy.
The reported ₹250 crore figure, which would make this divorce one of the most expensive in Indian entertainment history, remains unverified by either side, and there has been no official confirmation from Vijay, Sangeetha or their representatives.
Legal experts note that any settlement discussions would still need to align with court procedures, especially since the divorce petition reportedly includes serious allegations under statutory grounds. Should the parties fail to reach an agreement, the matter will return to the Chengalpattu Family Court, with a hearing already scheduled for 20 April.
The case has triggered widespread discussion among fans and within the entertainment industry, not least given Vijay’s stature in Tamil cinema and his recent foray into politics as the founder of the Tamil Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party. In response to the situation, the TVK leadership reportedly instructed functionaries to refrain from commenting on social media or in public forums about the case, in an apparent bid to limit controversy.
Social media has been abuzz with speculation, with some commentators drawing links to past cinematic collaborations and public appearances, all without official confirmation of the reasons behind Sangeetha’s decision to file for divorce.
For now, the focus remains on negotiations behind the scenes, and whether the reported ₹250 crore settlement will lead to an amicable conclusion or give way to a contested legal battle in the months ahead.
