Saraswathi Pushkaralu 2025 – A Sacred Confluence at Kaleshwaram bring devotees from both the Telugu states
Saraswathi Pushkarala were officially flagged off by Chief Minister of Telangana Revanth Reddy and Minister for Endowments Konda Surekha with concerned officials in attendance.
Saraswathi Pushkaralu, also known as Saraswathi Pushkara Yatra, is a deeply revered Hindu festival celebrating the sacred underground river Saraswati. This event occurs once every 12 years when Jupiter enters the Mithuna Rasi (Gemini sign), and the holy rituals are conducted for 12 days. In 2025, the Saraswati Pushkaralu began to be observed from 15th May and will go on to 26th May.
Spiritual Significance of Saraswathi Pushkaralu
The Saraswathi River holds an important place in Hindu mythology and sacred scriptures. It is mentioned in the Rig Veda, Bhagavata Purana, Ramayana, and Mahabharata. Though the river is believed to have vanished into the desert regions of Rajasthan, it is said to continue flowing underground and merges spiritually with the Godavari and Pranahita rivers at Kaleshwaram, Telangana.
Because of this underground confluence, Kaleshwaram is known as the Triveni Sangam – a meeting point of three sacred rivers: Godavari, Pranahita, and Saraswati.
Matrigaya – Rituals for Maternal Ancestors
Saraswathi Pushkaralu is unique in its emphasis on performing sacred rituals and offerings for deceased elders from the maternal side, known as Matrigaya. Devotees believe that participating in these rites brings peace to ancestors and removes karmic debts.
The Power of Pushkara Snanam (Holy Dip)
Taking a holy dip during Pushkaralu, called Pushkara Snanam, is considered a highly purifying act in orthodox Hindu tradition. It is believed to cleanse sins and grant spiritual merit. Bathing in the Triveni Sangam at Kaleshwaram during Saraswati Pushkaralu is seen as especially powerful due to the presence of the divine energy of Sri Maha Saraswati.
