Why Shah Rukh & Suhana’s ‘King’ won’t arrive until 2027

Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated film King, which also stars his daughter Suhana Khan in a key role, has hit another unexpected delay. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the project has been in production for months, with initial plans to wrap up and release within this year. However, sources close to the makers have confirmed that the release has now been postponed to the first half of 2027.

While the exact reasons for the delay remain undisclosed, speculation is rife within industry circles. Ever since its announcement, King has been surrounded by uncertainty. At first, it was widely reported that Suhana would be leading the film, marking her official Bollywood debut. Later, rumours emerged that Shah Rukh Khan would appear only in a guest role to support his daughter’s launch. Eventually, reports confirmed that Shah Rukh would in fact be playing the lead, alongside Suhana in a prominent character.

These shifts in narrative have only added to the intrigue, and perhaps the complications, surrounding the project. There have also been whispers of script rewrites in recent months, which the production team has neither confirmed nor denied. The film’s release date has already been changed multiple times, with an earlier plan set for 2026 before this fresh push to 2027.

For Suhana Khan, this project is a particularly significant milestone. After making her first appearance in the short film The Grey Part of Blue and later playing Veronica in Netflix’s The Archies, King was meant to be her grand cinematic launch alongside her superstar father. With the delay, fans will now have to wait at least another year to witness this father-daughter collaboration on the big screen.

For now, the makers remain tight-lipped, but anticipation, and curiosity, around King is only likely to grow as audiences wonder what’s causing the repeated postponements.
