Celebrating Rama Rasa: Ramayana Kalpavrksam Festival Unfolds in Hyderabad

Hyderabad is abuzz as Ramayana Kalpavrksam, a three-day festival weaving together classical arts, interactive sessions and insightful discourse on the Ramayana, will be held from 30st January 2026 to 1st Feb 2026 at CCRT, Madhapur. Curated by celebrated dancer and scholar Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, the event promises an immersive cultural experience that bridges ancient wisdom and contemporary expression.

Festival Highlights
This edition features pravachanams by revered orator Brahmasri Chaganti Koteswara Rao on Sita Rama Kalyanam and Hanumath Darshanam in the Ramamrita segment. Evening Ramarasa performances include Carnatic vocalist Sandeep Narayan, an Odissi duet Seeta Haran by Sujata Mohapatra and Preetisha Mohapatra, puppetry-based Ramayana by Little Ballet Theatre from Bhopal (a Hyderabad debut), Manganiyar Magic from Rajasthan, a public lecture on Maryada and Dharma by Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, and a fusion grand finale by Carnatic 2.0.

Scholarly Dialogues
Morning Kala Charan sessions tackle decolonisation with intellectuals like Dr. Mohan Raghavan, Sri TS Krishnan, Raghava Krishna, Rekha Achyutuni, and Dr. Jayant, exploring identity reclamation, Bharatiya parenting, and Rama Rasa in tech. These build on past editions’ success, where talks integrated ancient wisdom with contemporary relevance, drawing crowds from across India.

Artisan Marketplace
Kala Grama offers a vibrant artisan bazaar with traditional crafts, a unique Ramayana Doll Display by Sreedevi Chitti of Sanaatana Dolls, and an Indic brand showcase, sustaining living traditions. Previous years featured similar bazaars alongside workshops and exhibitions, fostering community engagement.

Legacy and Uniqueness
Inaugurated by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in its debut, the festival has evolved into Hyderabad’s iconic cultural anchor, uniquely converging art, knowledge, and practice amid siloed scenes elsewhere.
