Eternals may have a role in Avengers: Secret Wars as Marvel looks to reconnect cosmic threads
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is gearing up for one of its most ambitious spectacles yet with Avengers: Secret Wars, and fresh insights suggest that characters from Eternals may finally be woven into the saga’s sprawling narrative.
Since their introduction in the 2021 film Eternals, the immortal cosmic beings have remained largely peripheral to the wider MCU, despite their deep mythological roots and connections to the universe’s overarching lore. The original movie concluded with several key Eternals whisked away by the Celestial Arishem, leaving their fate in the central timeline uncertain.
In recent industry chatter, well-connected insider James Mack indicated on social media that Marvel Studios is planning to include “one character from the Eternals” in Secret Wars. While no specific identity has been confirmed, the nature of the Multiverse-centred plot in Secret Wars means there is room for a variety of interpretations, including alternate versions of familiar faces or entirely new variants emerging from parallel realities.
This development would mark the first significant return to live-action MCU projects for the Eternals since their debut. Although some variants of the characters have appeared in animated series such as Marvel Zombies and What If…?, these did not take place on the MCU’s principal timeline and therefore did not meaningfully advance their story arcs.
Fans have long speculated about how the Eternals, with their vast cosmic powers and unique backstory, might fit into the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Secret Wars, which itself is expected to serve as a culmination of interconnected stories involving multiple universes and timelines, offers an ideal framework to bring such characters back into play, even if only briefly.
