‘Iron Lung’ Leads Quiet Week at Box Office

The week of March 9–15, 2026, brings a relatively quiet slate for theatrical releases in India, with only a handful of international and regional films arriving in cinemas. However, streaming platforms continue to offer fresh content, including returning global series and a few original films across languages.

Limited Theatrical Releases This Week: Slow Week at Box Office

Theatrical activity this week will primarily revolve around a few Hollywood and regional titles releasing on March 13.

Among the international releases, the thriller Iron Lung is set to hit theatres, drawing attention from fans of suspense-driven cinema. Also arriving is Reminders of Him, a film adaptation that has generated interest among audiences familiar with the story’s emotional narrative. Another international title, Solo Mio, is also expected to release the same day, although its distribution status remains uncertain due to reported delays.

Notably, there are no major Bollywood “prime” releases scheduled this week, leaving Hindi cinema with only smaller titles entering theatres. Two non-prime Hindi films — Kissa Court Kachahari Ka and Ramyaa — are slated to release, offering audiences courtroom drama and independent storytelling options at select cinemas.

Regional Cinema Adds a Few Titles

Regional film industries also have a limited presence in theatres this week. Tamil cinema leads with two releases: Anthony and Police Family. While details about the films remain limited, both are expected to cater primarily to local audiences.

Bengali cinema contributed a single release with Ishkaboner Bibi, adding to the week’s modest lineup. Other major regional industries including Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati do not have scheduled theatrical releases during this period.

Streaming Platforms Carry the Week

With theatres seeing a quieter schedule, OTT platforms are stepping in with several new releases, particularly in the series category.

On Netflix, the much-awaited second season of the popular live-action adventure series One Piece premieres on March 10. The show, based on the globally popular manga, continues the journey of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as they search for the legendary treasure. Later in the week, Netflix will also release Virgin River Season 7 on March 12, continuing the long-running romantic drama set in a small Californian town.

Netflix will also debut a new original film titled Made in Korea on March 12. The Tamil-language project adds to the platform’s growing catalogue of regional-language productions.

Meanwhile, Amazon MX Player will release the Hindi series Sankalp on March 11. While details about the storyline remain under wraps, the show adds to the platform’s expanding lineup of original Indian web series.

Another OTT release arrives on ZEE5 with the Tamil film Bookie, scheduled to premiere on March 13.

Quiet Week for Big OTT Platforms

Several major streaming platforms — including Amazon Prime Video, Disney’s JioStar, Sony LIV, Apple TV+, and others — have not scheduled new releases for this particular week.

A Transitional Week at box office for the Industry

Overall, the March 9–15 window appears to be a relatively calm period for both theatrical and digital entertainment. With no major Bollywood releases and only a few regional films arriving in cinemas, much of the attention is likely to shift toward OTT premieres like One Piece Season 2, Virgin River Season 7, and Made in Korea.

Industry watchers note that such quieter weeks are not unusual, often appearing between larger release cycles when studios hold back major titles for festival seasons or holiday weekends.
