On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on a lion safari at the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat’s Junagadh district on March 3rd, 2025. Accompanied by ministers and senior forest department officials, PM Modi, who is currently on a tour of Gujarat, visited the sanctuary to observe and highlight the conservation efforts in the region.
He shared his experience, saying, “Lions and lionesses on a safari in Gir!” and posted glimpses of photos taken that morning. He also reflected on how, over the last decade, the populations of tigers, leopards, and rhinos have risen, which indicates how deeply we cherish wildlife and are working to build sustainable habitats for animals. “I urge all of you to visit Gir in the future,” he added.
He further said, “I went on a safari in Gir, which, as we all know, is home to the majestic Asiatic Lion. Visiting Gir also brings back many memories of the work we collectively did when I served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. In recent years, collective efforts have ensured that the population of Asiatic lions has been steadily rising. Equally commendable is the role played by tribal communities and women from surrounding areas in preserving the habitat of the Asiatic Lion.”
