RBVRR Women’s College, Hyderabad, commemorated the 156th birth anniversary of Sri Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy on August 22, 2025, with a solemn ceremony. The event began with the garlanding of Raja Bahadur’s bust on the college premises, paying tribute to his remarkable legacy as a reformer and pioneer of women’s education in Telangana.

RBVRR Women’s College, located in Hyderabad, is a prestigious institution dedicated to the education and empowerment of women. It is the first institution in Telangana to secure NAAC ‘A’ grade in its Fifth Cycle of Accreditation. Established with a mission to promote academic excellence and holistic development, the college has a rich legacy tied to Sri Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy, a prominent social reformer and the first Hindu Kotwal of Hyderabad. The college is renowned for fostering a strong tradition of cultural and intellectual growth among its students, aiming to uphold Raja Bahadur’s vision of women’s emancipation through education.

Prof. V Nithyananda Rao, Vice Chancellor of Suravaram Pratapa Reddy, Telugu University, was the chief guest for the occasion. Telugu University is an institution dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Telugu language, literature, and culture. Under his leadership, the university has focused on expanding academic programs and research initiatives that celebrate Telugu heritage and support regional education. Prof. Rao is recognised for his scholarly contributions and commitment to fostering cultural pride and educational excellence in Telangana.

The formal program commenced with a speech by Principal Dr. J. Achyutha Devi, who addressed the gathering by highlighting the rich history of R. B.V.R.R Women’s College and emphasising Raja Bahadur’s pivotal role in advancing women’s education. She urged students and faculty alike to continue building on this legacy of empowerment and academic excellence.

Students of the college paid heartfelt homage to the great achievements of Raja Bahadur, honouring his lasting impact on women’s education and social progress.

In his address, Prof. V Nithyananda Rao highlighted Raja Bahadur’s significant contributions in enhancing the future especially women from the districts of Telangana. Raja Bahadur inspired many other eminent educators and political figures like Sri Madapati Hanumantha Rao and Sarojini Naidu to contribute towards the cause of women’s education. Prof. V Nithyananda Rao also highlighted the enhanced role of Telugu language among women in academia.
The chief guest was honoured by Principal Dr. J. Achyutha Devi, Vice-Principal Sri K Sindhuri, Correspondent cum Secretary Prof. Sudarshan Reddy, and Secretary of HMVS Prof. K Muthyam Reddy.

Prof. Rao presented awards to students excelling in a variety of competitions, including rangoli, essay writing, book review, photography, elocution, and extempore speaking. Students from other college like St Francis also won prizes in several inter-collegiate competitions.
The formal proceedings concluded with a vibrant showcase of cultural performances by the students, coordinated by cultural coordinator Dr. Sumitra Jaiswal. The entire event was organised by Dr. Bhagavathi Darbha, Convener of the Student Advisory Committee, and a team of enthusiastic faculty members.

The 156th birth anniversary celebration of Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy concluded with the national anthem reflecting the dedication and spirit of the college and along with the larger society.
