Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani review: A quirky family tale that fails to impress

Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani review by Kausalya Rachavelpula

The Telugu film Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani is a crime comedy starring Sivaji and Laya. Directed by Sudheer Sriram, the film attempts to combine humour, suspense, and family drama. The story revolves around an ordinary man whose life suddenly becomes chaotic after a shocking incident involving a dead body. What follows is a series of confusing and sometimes humorous events as he tries to deal with the situation. Although the film tries to present an unusual idea, its overall execution feels inconsistent and weak.

One of the main attractions of the film is the reunion of Sivaji and Laya after many years. Sivaji plays the lead role and also produced the film. His performance is decent, and he manages to hold the audience’s attention in some scenes. However, the character itself lacks depth and strong development. Laya, who returns to the screen after a long break, performs adequately but her role does not leave a strong impact. In several scenes, her character behaves in an unrealistic way, which weakens the emotional connection with the audience.

The film’s biggest problem lies in its writing. The storyline has an interesting starting point but it fails to develop properly. Instead of building suspense or meaningful comedy, many scenes feel unnecessary and slow down the narrative. The screenplay lacks focus, and several characters appear without contributing much to the plot. As a result, the film often feels stretched and uneven. Both halves of the film contain long portions that do not add much value to the story.

Another weakness is the film’s tone. Although it deals with a serious situation involving crime, the characters often behave in a light and unrealistic manner. This creates confusion about whether the film is meant to be a dark comedy or a simple entertainer. In a successful dark comedy, humour usually comes from tension and clever writing. In this film, however, the comedy often feels forced rather than natural.

The supporting cast includes several comedians and character actors who try to bring humour to the story. While a few scenes manage to create mild entertainment, many comic episodes appear disconnected from the main narrative. Some characters, including political figures and other side roles, are introduced but their presence does not significantly affect the story.

Technically, the film is average. The cinematography and background music are adequate and support the film’s atmosphere to some extent. However, the editing could have been much tighter. The film runs for more than two hours, and a shorter runtime might have improved its pacing and engagement.

Interestingly, the film was initially planned for a direct OTT release but was later released in theatres after positive early feedback. This decision created some curiosity among audiences, especially because of the nostalgic pairing of Sivaji and Laya.

Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani review: Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani has an unusual concept and a promising cast, but it struggles due to weak writing and inconsistent storytelling. While it offers a few light-hearted moments, the film ultimately fails to deliver a strong or memorable cinematic experience. With better screenplay development and tighter editing, it could have been a far more engaging crime comedy.
