Marking the film’s 10th anniversary, director Tarun Bhascker reflected on the journey with an emotional Instagram post that resonated with fans who grew up alongside the film.
“Everything has changed. Life has changed, people have changed, so have I. But when I look back, what stays with me isn’t the awards or the accolades… What flashes before my eyes are the people.”
Tarun wrote that while awards were beautiful milestones, they were never what stayed with him. Instead, he remembered the friendships that became family, the cast and crew who believed in one another, moments of laughter, impossible odds, and the quiet faith that somehow everything would work out.
He reflected on being “blissfully ignorant of fear,” trusting his heart more than his calculations. Looking back, he says those instinctive leaps of faith became the decisions he treasures the most.
Perhaps the most touching part of his message came when he admitted that Pelli Choopulu never really left him.
“Some films stop when they are released. This one has a life of its own. It kept finding new people, new meanings, and in many ways, it kept finding me.”
Calling the film his constant source of reassurance, Tarun said it always reminded him why he began making cinema in the first place. He ended the note by saying that while today celebrates ten years of Pelli Choopulu, it also marks the beginning of another decade and another journey—one he hopes to enter with the same childlike curiosity that shaped his debut.
