DUSHALA – A Powerful Solo Performance at Ravindra Bharati, Hyderabad

Experience the emotional depth of Dushala, a compelling 80-minute solo performance coming to Ravindra Bharati, Hyderabad, on 19th November 2025 at 7 PM.
The production reimagines the life and voice of Dushala, the only daughter of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari from the Mahabharata. Through her story, the performance transcends mythology, reflecting the struggles, pain, and resilience of women across generations — daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers.
Dushala speaks of her neglected childhood, the emotional distance from her mother, and the betrayal she faced when her brother offered her hand to Jayadrath as consolation for his defeat at Draupadi’s swayamvar. Torn between love and loyalty, she reveals why her empathy leaned toward the Pandavas and Draupadi more than her own kin.
The performance reaches a poignant high when Dushala imparts a lesson on motherhood — raising her son, Surath, with compassion and teaching him the futility of war, defying the rigid patterns set by her lineage. Her final act of severing ties with Hastinapur marks both her liberation and awakening.
Blending Kuchipudi and Folk dance elements, Dushala is not just a retelling of an epic tale, but a profound reflection on womanhood, identity, and inner strength.
