Fireback & Barback Hyderabad Review: Bangkok’s Bold Flavours Find a New Home at The Loft

Fireback

Fireback & Barback – EHV International’s first South Indian venture brings authentic Thai cuisine, inventive cocktails and immersive design to Hyderabad.

Located at The Loft in HITEC City, the twin concepts of Fireback and Barback mark EHV International’s first venture in South India. The hospitality group behind celebrated restaurants like Indian Accent, Comorin, HOSA and Chor Bizarre has now introduced Hyderabad to a thoughtfully curated slice of Bangkok—one that celebrates both its food culture and its nightlife.

Unlike many themed restaurants that merely borrow visual cues, Fireback and Barback immerse guests in contemporary Thailand through cuisine, cocktails, music and design.

The experience begins even before dinner.

Two Experiences Under One Roof

Guests enter through Barback, an atmospheric cocktail bar inspired by Bangkok’s vibrant Chinatown. Rich burgundy interiors, warm lighting and curated music create an inviting space that gradually transforms from an elegant lounge into a lively late-evening destination.

A partial divider leads naturally into Fireback, allowing the evening to flow effortlessly from cocktails to dinner and back again. It is a concept rarely explored in Hyderabad and one that feels refreshingly organic.

Authentic Thai, Not Adapted Thai

One of Fireback’s biggest strengths is its commitment to authenticity.

The menu has been developed under the guidance of legendary Chef David Thompson, widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts on Thai cuisine. Rather than diluting flavours to suit local palates, Fireback presents Thai food with remarkable confidence while remaining approachable for diners discovering the cuisine.

Every dish reflects the balance that defines Thailand’s culinary traditions—sweetness, acidity, spice, salt and aromatics working together rather than competing.

The meal begins with Miang Kham, delicate betel leaves wrapped around roasted peanuts, toasted coconut and pomelo that deliver bursts of flavour in every bite.

The Pineapple Som Tam is bright, refreshing and beautifully balanced, while the fire-grilled Pumpkin and Sweet Potato glazed with gorlae sauce proves that vegetarian dishes can be every bit as exciting as their meat counterparts.

Among the mains, the Jungle Curry stands out with its robust chilli heat and earthy spices, while the Red Curry with Soft Shell Crab delivers richness without becoming overwhelming. The Green Curry offers familiar comfort, and the Classic Thai Omelette demonstrates how even the simplest dishes can be elevated through technique and restraint.

Nothing feels overcomplicated. The focus remains firmly on ingredient quality and authentic flavours.

Cocktails That Tell Their Own Story

Barback is much more than a waiting lounge.

Its beverage programme, curated by EHV International’s Head of Bars Varun Sharma, draws heavily from Southeast Asian ingredients including pandan, kaffir lime, yuzu, coconut, tamarind, mango and lemongrass.

The Tom Yum Gimlet cleverly translates Thailand’s famous soup into cocktail form, balancing citrus, spice and herbaceous notes. The Pandan Negroni gives the classic Italian aperitif a tropical personality, while Mango Rice pays tribute to one of Asia’s most beloved desserts.

The cocktails are inventive without becoming gimmicky—a balance that is often difficult to achieve.

Chef Kaustubh Haldipur’s accompanying menu complements the drinks beautifully. Crispy Lotus Root Chips, Prawn Toast, Chilli Oil Dumplings, Chongqing Tofu, Black Pepper Chicken and Lamb Meatball Skewers are all designed for sharing, making Barback equally suitable for pre-dinner drinks or a relaxed evening with friends.

Design That Evolves Through the Evening

Fireback’s interiors deserve special mention.

Designed by London’s Russell Sage Studio, the restaurant combines warm textures, contemporary finishes and understated Thai influences without resorting to clichés. Natural materials, soft lighting and open spaces create a sophisticated environment that feels elegant rather than theatrical.

As the evening progresses, Barback gradually changes character. The lighting softens, music shifts towards Afro-house rhythms and the atmosphere becomes livelier without ever becoming overwhelming.

The transition is subtle, making guests feel like they are experiencing two destinations while never leaving the building.

Fireback succeeds because it doesn’t try to impress through excess. Instead, it relies on authenticity, consistency and thoughtful execution.

Chef David Thompson‘s influence is evident throughout the menu, while EHV International’s experience in creating destination restaurants shows in every detail—from service and interiors to cocktails and music.

For Hyderabad, Fireback fills a noticeable gap. While the city offers several Asian restaurants, very few focus exclusively on authentic regional Thai cuisine with this level of commitment.

Barback, meanwhile, introduces a cocktail-forward concept that feels contemporary, social and distinctly different from the city’s existing bar scene.

Together, Fireback and Barback deliver one of Hyderabad’s most complete dining experiences—ideal for date nights, celebrations, business dinners and evenings that seamlessly transition into late-night conversations over exceptional cocktails.

Whether you’re a serious lover of Thai cuisine or simply looking for one of Hyderabad’s newest culinary destinations, Fireback and Barback deserve a place on your dining list.
