by Rajeshwari Kalyanam

Hanok the ‘seoulful’ food place is the latest addition to the food map of Hyderabad. The restaurant serves traditional Korean food – offering a balance of authentic and some dishes reimagined for local palate, just like its ambiance. The restaurant is designed with outdoor space with a lot wooden elements to bring in nature, and inside descor has its natural elements, Korean architectural features like the sloped roof made of wood, cane chandeliers, and native symbols used in a modern setting creates perfect balance for this diner which promises fiery Korean and Korean inspired food.

In a city that has its fair share of K Drama and K- Food lovers , and some trube cloue blooded Koreans as well, Hanok itself in homemade Kimchi – the lifeline of Korean food, and also the flavourful sauces and rice cakes made in house in the most authentic way possible.

For the uninitiated the likes of much addictive Korean Chicken Wings, prawn tempura, crispy squid, Korean Hot Dog and Spring Roll give you the glimpse of the fiery Korean flavours and the sauces give distinct edge to the food.

Korean Food

When its Korean food it must start with Kimchi – the fermented cabbage with ginger and herbs. Just make sure you order some that stays alongside on your plate all through your lunch or dinner. This comes by for every course never mind the food if its spicy or not (the latter option is rare though).

The Professional Korean food eaters especially must check out the utterly traditional – Kimbap (both vegetarian and non-veg variants of the Seaweed Rice Rolls), Korean dumplings – Mandu, Bibimbap (don’t forget to ask for some extra dollop of the spicy-savoury sauce to make this rice bowl more flavourful) or the Kimchi Fried Rice.

The noodles options on Hanok’s menu are amazing– but on your first visit do not miss the Ramyun bowl. After Kimchi – a hearty Ramyun decides how truly Korean a restaurant is. The Jajangmyeon Noodles, Japchae or the Dan Dan – as mentioned the options are there for you to try – just hold on to your chopsticks and try them away.

Hanok has opened in the city of Biryani – yet it is fast becoming the choice of food lovers in general and Korean food lovers in particular. The secret to this success is definitely the carefully curated menu that has kept the classics intact and deviated some for the rest of the menu to appeal to all. And everything in between as mentioned earlier is taken care by the fiery Korean spices, and sauces.

The promoters of Hanok also have another popular cafe running – Cravery and there is denying they are masters of beverages. On this menu they have the iced and hot coffees, and the bubble teas to help you through the fierce flavours.

In short here’s a must try place if you love eating out – if you love Korean food – then here are five Fridaywall Recommendations
