From Debut with Shah Rukh Khan to Found-Footage Horror: Shriya Pilgaonkar Wraps Vir Das’s ‘Baara Number’!
Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar has officially completed filming for her upcoming project Baara Number, directed by actor-filmmaker Vir Das. The film explores the psychological found-footage horror format, marking an unconventional entry into mainstream Indian cinema. Shriya wrapped the shoot following several acclaimed performances in movies and streaming series.
Reflecting on her experience working on the project, Pilgaonkar stated:
“I’ve just wrapped Baara Number, and shooting a found-footage horror film has been an exciting experience. This is my second collaboration with Vir Das and his team, and surrendering to his audacious storytelling is always rewarding. I’ve always loved horror, so exploring something unexpected in the genre with an incredible cast and crew was a lot of fun. I’m really happy to attract diverse stories that allow me to go completely wild. Now, I’m looking forward to the theatrical releases of Mirzapur: The Film and Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan this September.”
Following the completion of Baara Number, Pilgaonkar is preparing for two high-profile theatrical releases scheduled for September. She will star in Priyadarshan’s directorial thriller Haiwaan, appearing alongside Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. Additionally, she will feature in Mirzapur: The Film, the theatrical feature adaptation based on the hit crime franchise.
Shriya made her Hindi film debut in 2016 with Yash Raj Films’ Fan, starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Her role in the big-budget action thriller marked a high-profile start to her career in Hindi cinema, establishing her early in major mainstream productions.
Since her debut, Pilgaonkar has built a diverse body of work spanning digital series and films. Her prominent roles include portraying Sweety Gupta in the crime drama Mirzapur, advocate Kashaf Quaze in the legal series Guilty Minds, and news editor Radha Bhargav in The Broken News. Her recent screen credits also feature performances in the thriller series Chhal Kapat: The Deception and YRF’s Mandala Murders.
Only few actors today have managed to create an equally compelling presence across streaming platforms and theatrical cinema and even fewer get a stellar opportunity of having two theatrical releases in the same month. While for audiences she will always be the prominent and most loved ‘OTT Queen’, Shriya has consciously built a body of work that extends beyond digital entertainment as we await two big theatrical projects
