Industry body representing over four lakh workers steps in as Don 3 fallout raises questions over Ranveer Singh–Farhan Akhtar equation
The Don 3 controversy has moved beyond a routine casting or scheduling issue into one of Bollywood’s biggest industry flashpoints, with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) announcing a non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh after his reported exit from the film.
The development has put the spotlight not only on the future of Don 3 but also on what appears to be an emerging distance between Ranveer Singh and filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar, who had personally introduced the actor as the new face of the iconic franchise.
FWICE, which represents more than four lakh workers, technicians and film employees across the industry, reportedly acted after complaints were raised by Farhan Akhtar and production banner Excel Entertainment regarding Ranveer’s withdrawal from the project close to the shooting schedule.
According to reports, the production team had already incurred significant pre-production expenditure including travel arrangements, overseas bookings and logistical preparations for a large unit. Industry reports have pegged the expenses and losses at around Rs 45 crore.
The situation has now evolved into a larger industry issue, with FWICE reportedly stating that its members would refrain from working with the actor until the matter reaches a resolution.
What makes the controversy particularly significant is the symbolic weight Don 3 carried for both sides. The film was positioned as a major reinvention of the Don franchise after the exit of Shah Rukh Khan from the series. Farhan Akhtar had unveiled Ranveer as the franchise’s new lead in a move seen as both a creative transition and a generational shift.
The current fallout, however, appears to have created visible distance between actor and filmmaker. Neither side has publicly escalated the matter, but the involvement of an industry body and the scale of the dispute suggest that the relationship may have moved into a difficult phase.
Ranveer Singh, while responding to the controversy, maintained a measured stance, stating that he respects everyone associated with the Don franchise and prefers handling professional matters privately and with dignity.
With Don 3 already facing delays and uncertainty over its lead casting, the latest developments have added another layer of intrigue around one of Bollywood’s most anticipated projects. More importantly, it raises the question of whether the film that was expected to mark a new creative partnership between Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar has instead become the point of divergence between them.
