Fine Arts students from JNAFAU including BFA and MFA Final Year students volunteered to paint at Khairtabad Cross Roads on October 2 to create awareness about COTPA 2003. The painting is part of the initiative by Council For Planetary Health and Human Development, a non-profit organization working for public health.
Section (4) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce Production, Supply and Distribution) Act COTPA 2003 prohibits smoking in all public places. ‘Public Place’ is defined as any place to which the public has access, whether as of right or not, and includes all places visited by general public. Boards containing the warning, “No Smoking Area- Smoking Here is an Offence”, has to be displayed prominently at the entrance of public place.
India has been effective in certain areas but higher purpose of the law can be achieved through strict implementation.
Keeping Smoke-free rules anniversary in view, let’s all work together in making at least few of the public places Smoke-free.
So we humbly request electronic and print media to give extensive coverage to the above program so that intended message reaches the masses.
