The launch of Indian English author Dr Shikha Bhatnagar’s sixth book, Mythical Narratives of Jyotirlingas and Ashtadasha Mahashaktipeeth, was held at the Press Club in Basheerbagh, Hyderabad.
The event was attended by Singareni Collieries Company Limited official Sudhakar, renowned dermatologist Dr Mukesh Raj Srivastava, educationist Prof. Chetan Srivastava and noted social worker and blood donor Yogesh Raj Srivastava, who were the chief guests and dignitaries on the dais.
The programme began with Dr Bhatnagar reciting an original poem, setting the tone for an evening centred on literature, Indian traditions and spirituality.
Published by Notion Press, the book explores the stories and origins associated with the twelve Jyotirlingas, while also presenting information on the eighteen Mahashakti Peethas. The section on the Shakti Peethas draws from the Ashtadasha Shakti Peetha Stotram attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, with the book offering illustrated accounts to make the subject more accessible to contemporary readers.
Speaking about her literary objective, Dr Bhatnagar emphasised the need to encourage young people, increasingly immersed in digital screens and the culture of scrolling, to rediscover the habit of reading and writing. Through her work, she also seeks to introduce younger generations to India’s cultural and Sanatana traditions in an engaging manner.
The dignitaries on the dais shared their views on the book and appreciated Dr Bhatnagar’s effort to bring stories from India’s spiritual and cultural heritage into a contemporary literary format.
Swati Srivastava introduced the author and spoke about her literary journey and body of work. Well-known city journalist Atul Srivastava also addressed the gathering, sharing his thoughts on Shiva and the deeper philosophical significance of Shiva Tattva.
The book launch brought together writers, journalists, academics and members of the city’s literary and cultural community, highlighting the continuing relevance of India’s traditional narratives in contemporary literature.
