Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for heightened national preparedness in response to the escalating conflict in West Asia, cautioning that the situation could have far-reaching and long-term global consequences. He stressed that disruptions caused by the ongoing tensions may significantly affect critical sectors such as energy, trade, and supply chains.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, Modi highlighted the seriousness of the conflict involving Iran, United States, and Israel. He noted that the evolving situation has created uncertainty across global markets, particularly in energy supplies, which could indirectly impact economies worldwide, including India. According to him, the effects of these developments are unlikely to subside quickly and may persist over a long period.
Drawing a comparison with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister urged citizens to remain vigilant, disciplined, and united. He recalled how India collectively navigated the challenges posed by the pandemic and emphasized that a similar spirit of cooperation and resilience would be necessary to address the emerging global crisis. He reiterated that preparedness at both government and individual levels would play a crucial role in mitigating potential risks.
Focusing on national security, Modi stated that all agencies responsible for maintaining law and order have been placed on high alert. He said that security measures are being strengthened across multiple fronts, including border surveillance, coastal security, cybersecurity, and the protection of vital infrastructure. These steps, he explained, are aimed at ensuring the country remains safeguarded against any indirect threats arising from the geopolitical situation.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns about the spread of misinformation and attempts to exploit the crisis for personal gain. He warned that during such uncertain times, some elements may try to create panic by spreading false information or engage in unethical practices such as hoarding and black marketing. He urged state governments to remain proactive and take strict action against such activities to maintain public trust and stability.
Reaffirming the importance of unity, Modi concluded that coordinated efforts between the central government, state authorities, and citizens would be key to overcoming any challenges posed by the evolving global scenario. He emphasized that patience, preparedness, and collective responsibility would define India’s response in the days ahead.
