For Immediate Editorial Consideration

Across the global luxury travel and hospitality landscape, a quiet but significant shift is underway. For the most discerning travellers, luxury is no longer defined by scale, spectacle or excess. Increasingly, it is defined by authenticity, cultural depth and access to experiences that feel deeply rooted in place. Around the world, high-value travellers are seeking smaller, intimate gatherings where food, art, history and conversation create a more meaningful connection to local culture. Destinations such as Tuscany, Kyoto & Oaxaca have successfully positioned themselves through this approach , where regional traditions are presented with thoughtful storytelling rather than grand spectacle.

This Ugadi, Hyderabad will host a rare cultural immersion that reflects this emerging movement. TELUGU ROUTESUgadi Edition 2026, conceptualised by The Culinary Lounge, is a private cultural retreat designed to revive the original pace, philosophy and sensory richness of the Telugu New Year. Hosted inside a private forest estate near Shankarpalli, the experience will welcome only fifty guests, creating an intimate gathering that blends culinary heritage, literature, performing arts and thoughtful conversation. The experience is priced at ₹15,000 per guest, reflecting the growing demand for highly curated cultural journeys rather than conventional festive events.

The initiative also brings together a collective of organisations united by a shared purpose , to position the Telugu states within the emerging global narrative of culinary and cultural tourism. Telangana Tourism, along with heritage-focused organisations such as Zishta, YK Antiques, and the Netherlands-based National Institute of Culinary and Cultural Traditions (NICCT), are supporting the effort to revive, document and present regional traditions in formats that resonate with contemporary travellers. Their participation adds both authenticity and credibility to the experience, while reinforcing a broader vision of showcasing Telugu culinary heritage and craftsmanship to national and international audiences.

The retreat unfolds like a carefully composed Ugadi day in a traditional Telugu home. Guests arrive in the early morning through quiet forest roads to the sound of nadaswaram and a warm festive breakfast inspired by traditional Ugadi kitchens. As the sun rises, the courtyard becomes the stage for Perini Tandavam, the ancient Kakatiya warrior dance of Telangana, reconnecting the gathering to the region’s artistic and historical legacy.

One of the highlights of the day is a rare conversation with celebrated actor, playwright and author Tanikella Bharani, who will share reflections on the origins of Telugu culinary traditions and their connections to mythology, literature and history. The experience continues through a series of immersive moments including a living display of antique Telugu kitchen tools by YK Museum & Zishta , that once shaped everyday cooking, and a traditional ganuga oil press where fresh oil is slowly extracted and served with warm rice, offering guests a sensory connection to food practices that have existed for centuries.

The culinary centrepiece of the retreat is a traditional Telangana feast served on lotus leaves, curated by Sandhya Linga of The Rasam Room, bringing together heirloom recipes that reflect the region’s agrarian history and festive food traditions. As the afternoon settles in, guests gather for a literary salon inspired by the cultural legacy of the iconic Telugu film Shankarabharanam, exploring how language, music and storytelling have shaped Telugu identity across generations and geographies.

Food plays a particularly important role throughout the experience, presented not merely as cuisine but as living cultural memory. The evening Telugu High Tea draws inspiration from Coastal Andhra and North Andhra kitchens, where artisans prepare traditional sweets and savouries such as Ariselu, Bobbatlu, Gavvalu and Punugulu live in the courtyard over open flame. Guests may observe the preparation, participate in the process or simply watch the choreography of hands, ingredients and fire , a reminder that many of these culinary traditions survive today only within homes.

Each guest also receives a handcrafted Ugadi bag that gradually fills through the day with curated objects , from festival foods and literature to handcrafted ceramics used during the meal , creating a tactile keepsake of the experience.

Beyond the celebration itself, TELUGU ROUTES represents a broader vision for the Telugu states. By presenting regional culture through thoughtful curation, storytelling and intimate gatherings, the initiative seeks to position Telangana and Andhra Pradesh within the growing global interest in cultural tourism. As travellers increasingly seek authentic regional narratives, experiences like this offer a compelling opportunity to showcase the depth of Telugu food traditions, literature and performing arts to both domestic connoisseurs and international audiences.

TELUGU ROUTES – Ugadi Edition 2026 will be hosted on March 15, 2026 at a private forest estate near Shankarpalli, with participation limited to fifty elite guests.
