Zendaya Is Having a Record-Breaking 2026 — And She Isn’t Done Yet

If Hollywood had a MVP award for 2026, Zendaya would have a very convincing case. The actor has officially emerged as 2026’s highest-grossing actor, following an extraordinary run of major theatrical releases that has placed her at the centre of two of the year’s biggest films: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Together, the films have generated close to $2 billion worldwide, giving Zendaya one of the most commercially powerful years of her career.

And remarkably, the year isn’t over. With Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three still scheduled for December, Zendaya has another major blockbuster waiting in the wings.

From Disney Star to Global Box-Office Powerhouse

Zendaya’s rise has been unusually steady. She first became widely known through Disney Channel’s Shake It Up before moving into more mature projects and eventually establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable young performers.

Her transition from television to major theatrical franchises has been particularly impressive. The Spider-Man films introduced her to an enormous global audience as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, while Dune positioned her within one of contemporary cinema’s most ambitious science-fiction franchises.

Her 2026 run represents the culmination of that progression. She is no longer simply a familiar face attached to successful franchises. She is now one of the performers appearing across several of the year’s biggest cinematic events.

The Odyssey Adds Christopher Nolan to the Equation

Zendaya’s first major theatrical outing of the year came with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic, the film follows Odysseus and his perilous journey home following the Trojan War. Nolan has assembled an enormous ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron and Zendaya.

The project was always positioned as a major cinematic event, particularly because Nolan chose to shoot the film using IMAX technology and brought together one of the most star-heavy casts of his career.

For Zendaya, appearing in a Christopher Nolan epic adds another important dimension to her filmography. It places her alongside a filmmaker known for demanding enormous theatrical experiences while simultaneously expanding her range beyond the superhero and science-fiction franchises with which audiences increasingly associate her.

Then Came Spider-Man: Brand New Day

If The Odyssey demonstrated Zendaya’s appeal within prestige filmmaking, Spider-Man: Brand New Day proved the sheer commercial force of the Marvel machine.

The film reunites Zendaya with Tom Holland, with Holland returning as Peter Parker and Zendaya reprising her role as MJ. The movie opened to an extraordinary $360 million domestically, becoming the biggest opening ever at the North American box office, according to Deadline’s latest box-office reporting.

The scale of the opening immediately placed Brand New Day among the year’s defining theatrical events. It also created another interesting milestone for Zendaya and Holland: because the two appear together in both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, they have emerged as the year’s highest-grossing Hollywood couple.

A Rare Double Act at the Box Office

What makes Zendaya’s 2026 particularly unusual is that her success isn’t coming from one franchise alone. She has effectively had two completely different cinematic identities operating simultaneously.

In The Odyssey, she is part of a sprawling historical-fantasy epic directed by one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed filmmakers. In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, she returns to a hugely popular superhero universe with a character audiences have followed for years.

The films appeal to completely different audiences, yet both have contributed to the extraordinary box-office year surrounding her. That versatility is increasingly becoming one of Zendaya’s greatest professional strengths.

And Then There’s Dune: Part Three

Just when the year already looks enormous, Zendaya has another major release coming. She is expected to return as Chani in Dune: Part Three, the next chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science-fiction saga.

The film is scheduled for release in December 2026, meaning Zendaya could potentially finish the year with three enormous theatrical projects. Her role as Chani has also become increasingly significant throughout the franchise.

What began as a mysterious Fremen warrior and Paul Atreides’ love interest developed into one of the emotional centres of Dune: Part Two, with Chani becoming increasingly sceptical of Paul’s transformation and the political forces surrounding him.

Dune: Part Three is therefore expected to take that complicated relationship even further. And if the film performs strongly at the global box office, Zendaya’s already extraordinary 2026 total could climb substantially higher.

The Zendaya Effect

There is another reason this achievement matters. Zendaya’s career has increasingly demonstrated that she can move between very different corners of popular culture without becoming trapped inside one particular image.

She has television roots, fashion influence, franchise credentials, awards recognition and an increasingly impressive collection of auteur-driven projects.

Her association with filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve, alongside her place within the Marvel universe, represents an unusually broad professional portfolio for an actor who is still only in her twenties.

The result is a career that feels increasingly difficult to categorize. She can headline a superhero movie, appear in an epic adaptation of Homer, lead a major science-fiction franchise and simultaneously dominate fashion and popular culture.

2026 Could Become Zendaya’s Defining Year

The numbers are impressive, but the bigger story is what they represent. Zendaya has gone from being a former Disney star to becoming one of the most commercially significant young actors working in Hollywood.

And 2026 has placed that transformation on full display. With The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day driving close to $2 billion in combined global box-office business, she has already secured the year’s highest-grossing-actor distinction according to current reporting.

Now Dune: Part Three is waiting. If that film delivers another major theatrical run, Zendaya’s 2026 won’t merely be remembered as a successful year.

It could become the year that officially established her as one of Hollywood’s biggest global movie stars.
