Decoding Sankranthiki Vasthunam

The success we’re witnessing now is beyond our imagination,” shares Anil Ravipudi as he celebrates his 10th year in the movie industry.

“This is success like never before. Even I do not know how it happened. When we were writing the script, we aimed to create a hit like F2, but it has surpassed all expectations. For now, we are simply enjoying the success. Later, I’ll sit down and analyze it. Sankranthiki Vasthunam is a film worthy of a case study,” the director said, expressing his surprise and delight.

The director also acknowledges the team especially actor Venkatesh who has been excitedly participating in the promotions and being there for them all through.

Anil Ravipudi – 10 Years and 8 Films Later

Reflecting on his decade-long journey, Anil says he has experienced consistent highs as audiences have embraced his films, which he believes yet again proves that well-made family entertainers are always well-received.

Anil has directed eight films so far, each enjoyed its fair share of success and more.

Every movie in these ten years has been a wonderful experience. I’ve been blessed to work with amazing heroes. Without Kalyan Ram, my career wouldn’t have existed. He not only produced my debut film but also gave me the opportunity to direct. I will always credit him for these ten years. From Supreme with Sai Dharam Tej to Raja The Great with Ravi Teja, F2 with Venkatesh, Sarileru Neekevvaru with Mahesh Babu, F3 with Venkatesh again, Bhagwant Kesari with Balakrishna, and now Sankranthiki Vasthunam – every film with every hero has been a memorable experience. It’s an incredible feeling to work with heroes I once admired from the audience.”

Working with the Four Pillars of Telugu Film Industry

Anil also shared that he may be directing a pan-India film someday, but for now he is happy doing what he does best. Meanwhile his aspiration of working with the four big heroes he used to watch and clap for in theatres will be achieved when he does films with Megastar Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna. He revealed that he is already in talks with Chiranjeevi for his next project and hopes to work with Nagarjuna in the coming year. “My dream is to direct all four pillars of Telugu cinema – Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, and Balakrishna. I will make it happen,” he added.

On his film making style and genre, he explained, “I’ve faced criticism, but the audience’s approval of my style keeps me going. Family entertainers give me the most satisfaction, and I always find myself returning to this genre. It’s not just about making money. With Sankranthiki Vasthunam, we managed to bring families back to theaters – men and women who had stopped watching movies in theaters, even those in wheelchairs. Seeing their appreciation is heartwarming.

“When faced with uncertainty I talk to myself and remind how I am good at my work and how my films are accepted by the audiences of all ages.”

You Can Do It is what I tell myself. With the present success all my doubts vanished.

He idolizes directors like EVV Satyanarayana, Jandhyala, and Krishna Reddy, who made films relatable to audiences. “Even if I make a serious film, there will always be comedy in it,” he shared.

With all his films declared hits on various levels – it is but natural that every one would love to hear about the secret to his success, he said, “I write every film with the audience in mind. I carefully analyze my strengths and weaknesses, sticking to what the audience expects while expanding on it. I believe in the audience’s judgment—they are the reason I am here today. The most valuable treasure I’ve earned in these 10 years is the love of my audience. I feel like a multi-millionaire because of it.”

The Back Story – Anil Ravipudi Before Pataas

Anil Ravipudi’s success didn’t happen overnight. Before becoming a director, he spent years working in the film industry trying to get a break, and struggled for two years even after becoming an assistant director. “It was a tough period. I approached so many people to make my film, but it was only when Kalyan Ram agreed to do Pataas, despite going through a rough phase himself, that I saw hope. Post Pataas, there’s been no looking back.

My dream was always to become a director, and that was fulfilled with Pataas. Everything beyond that feels like a bonus. The audience has given me a life, and I am focused on giving them paisa vasool entertainment. That’s exactly what I aim to do.” He signed off until his next big film.
