Dayaa – The show stars versatile actor JD Chakravarthy, Eesha Rebba, Ramya Nambessan. It is directed by Pavan Sadineni with Shrikant Mohta, Mahendra Soni producing the series under SVF banner, a leading Bengali production house.

If One can narrate a film or story in 10 minutes – that shows his command over it, JD Chakravarthy plays the lead in the web series Dayaa. He is in praise of director Pavan Sadineni for his command over the script, the way he extracts work from the actors and his characterisation and choice of locations while creating the world of Dayaa – a web series on Disney + Hotstar.

Chakri says he does not have ego, but is an egoist – leaving it open for people to understand what makes JD, who got his name from the film Shiva a superhit film directed by his Guru RGV where he plays a grey role. From then to now he has acted with RGV for 34 films. He calls him an institution from where you can acquire as much as you seek to get. In this interview JD Chakravarthy explains how he agreed to do this film based on What he learnt from his only acting Guru.

Story Narration over a Phone Call & RGV

I am an actor who believes that content is the prince and director is the king. The way director Pavan Sadineni told the story of Dayaa is impressive. That’s why I agreed to act in this web series. But prior to that I had been postponing my decision when I was approached by Hotstar, as I was not keen on doing the webs series, but they persisted and I had to agree. Pavan explained the story on on a 10-minute phone call and he was supposed to meet me and narrate the whole story. I remember what my Guru told me. RGV said that any director who can tell a story in ten minutes has a solid command over the script. Since I was totally convinced with Pavan’s 10-minute narration, I did not bother with complete narration. I simply confirmed that I am doing the story

DayaaJD’s Character in Dayaa

Director Pavan is the big strength of Dayaa web series. The way be created each character is unique. It includes roles that bring recognition to the actors. I became JD with my first film Siva. Also, we remember Sathyaraj in Baahubali as kattappa. Dayaa is a web series with strong characters. This is a series shot in brilliant locations.

In Dayaa, I am a freezer van driver with hearing problem. My job is to take fish from one village to another village. Dayaa’s world was brilliantly established by Pavan in the first 10 – 12 minutes. One day the driver of the freezer van sees the dead body of the girl. He does not have the courage to tell the police. While in this fear, another corpse is found. These incidents turn the life of the driver.

On Working in Bollywood

Bollywood is like a neighbourhood house for me. That’s why I went there for a while. But my strength is Telugu film industry. That’s why I am doing projects here again. You know about demand and supply in industry. I’m getting a lot of offers and it would be a lie to say I’m not doing it. But there are some characters that I don’t like, which I don’t accept. My web series ‘Taaza Khabar’ Season 2 will be streamed soon. I will be acting in a film and a show on OTT.

Working for the OTT

It is not correct to say that stardom cannot be counted in OTT. We calculate the collections in the theatre to see how successful the movie is. But the measure is how many people watched on OTT. A web series is a good way to tell a story in a broader way than a film. Newcomers are also welcome in web series. They will be received well too. But in the theatre, there are only buyers for stars’ films. This is an advantage of OTT. I’m not a JD Chakravarthy but a new actor you will see in Dayaa.
