“Prabhas Garu, your producers have sent court notices and stopped the release of our film Spirit Is Not One, closing all possible avenues for us to release it. We request that you personally help release our film,” appealed farmer and woman producer Narsamma.
Narsamma stated that she had taken it as a challenge to fulfill her 50-year dream of making a film. After successfully completing Spirit Is Not One and preparing it for release on May 29, a legal notice from T-Series, headed by Bhushan Kumar, was delivered to her home. She said this has severely affected her reputation in her village and created financial difficulties.
According to her, people who had previously agreed to lend money are now refusing, questioning why producers associated with Prabhas would send legal notices unless there was a major issue. She said distributors have also declined to release the film. Narsamma expressed anguish that a small film like hers is facing obstacles from a major production house associated with one of India’s biggest stars.
She explained that she had dreamed of making a film since childhood and invested years of hard work, selling sheep, goats, and family assets while taking loans to finance the project. Instead of supporting small filmmakers, she alleged that the release of her film has been blocked.
Narsamma said she received legal notices from a large production company objecting to her film’s title. As a result, the release has been halted, causing severe financial hardship. She argued that it is unfair to raise objections only after the film has completed censorship formalities and promotional activities.
She further stated that the title Spirit Is Not One has been publicly discussed in interviews and media promotions for the past three years. She questioned why objections were raised only at the time of release. She added that if anyone had approached her earlier, she would have been willing to discuss or even give up the title for Prabhas’s film.
“Who exactly stopped the release of my film, and why were these notices sent to us?” she asked. She emphasized that there is no rule preventing small producers from making films and that large companies should not harass small filmmakers.
Narsamma said that, if necessary, she is prepared to fight the matter in court and continue her struggle until justice is done and her film is released. She also stated that because of the ongoing dispute, nobody is willing to lend money for the film’s release, leaving her unable to proceed.
Appealing directly to Prabhas, she requested that he help release Spirit Is Not One and provide justice to her. She also urged Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga to respond to the issue and help resolve the matter fairly.
