Sri Sathya Sai Baba Remembered on Maharadhana Day: A Legacy That Transcends Miracles

On April 24, thousands gathered in Puttaparthi and across the world to mark Maharadhana Day, commemorating the passing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The day, now etched in the collective memory of his followers, was observed with reverence and reflection, not as a ritualistic farewell, but as a reaffirmation of his teachings—centered on love, unity, and service.

While Baba was globally known for miracles—materializing vibhuti, healing the sick, and reading minds—his message extended beyond spectacle. “My miracles are like a mosquito on an elephant’s back,” he once said, a reminder that spiritual transformation, not sensationalism, was his true goal.

At the heart of Thursday’s observances were discussions and satsangs on Baba’s deeper legacy: his push for universal human values and selfless service. His “Educare” philosophy, which redefined education as a process of bringing out inherent human values rather than just academic learning, and his model of free, holistic healthcare were both highlighted.

In Puttaparthi, students from Sai institutions performed skits and shared stories that echoed Baba’s vision of compassion in action—whether through clean water projects, value-based education, or free super-speciality healthcare.

As Baba’s Centenary approaches this November, preparations are underway for a massive celebration expected to draw devotees from across the globe. But beyond the grandeur, what remains central is the ongoing impact of his work: a network of schools, hospitals, and volunteers guided not by institutional power, but by a shared belief in love as service.

In remembering Sathya Sai Baba, the focus remains not on what he did, but what he inspired others to become. On this day, his words ring louder than ever: “Love all. Serve all.”

Meanwhile, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has proclaimed April 24, 2025, as ‘Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centennial Celebration Day’ in the city, highlighting the message of selfless service for the community.

The proclamation from the Office of the Mayor was presented to members of the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council by Deputy Commissioner for the New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs Dilip Chauhan at a special event in City Hall on Tuesday.
