Thandel draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of fishermen imprisoned in Pakistan and highlights the efforts of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in facilitating their return
Sushma Swaraj’s tenure as India’s Minister of External Affairs left an indelible mark. A staunch supporter of Indians living abroad, she famously asserted her commitment to bringing them home, even if it meant reaching as far as the moon. Among her most significant achievements was her relentless pursuit to secure the release of 22 fishermen imprisoned in Pakistan, a cause she passionately advocated for.
Following Sushma Swaraj’s passing, her daughter, Bansuri Swaraj, took on the responsibility of continuing her mother’s legacy, ensuring the safe return of the fishermen.

The upcoming film Thandel, inspired by these events, will showcase the dedication of Sushma Swaraj and her family. When producer Bunny Vasu sought Bansuri Swaraj‘s permission to use her mother’s name and actual footage from her press conferences, the family provided the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Bunny Vasu expressed his appreciation, stating: “We are deeply grateful to Bansuri Swaraj for allowing us to highlight the extraordinary efforts of your mother, former Central Minister Sushma Swaraj, in securing the release of the fishermen trapped in Pakistani jails during 2017 and 2018 in our Thandel. Your support in permitting us to include their names in our impactful narrative about Raju and Satya is invaluable to us.”
Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, the film boasts a talented cast, with Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi portraying the central characters. Allu Aravind presents the film under Geetha Arts, with Bunny Vasu as the producer. The soundtrack by Devi Sri Prasad is also noteworthy, featuring songs that have become popular hits.
