Begum Parveen Sultana and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty pay tributes to Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saab at the National Festival or Music & Dance 2022 in Hyderabad

It is that time of the year when Sangitanjali Foundation celebrates Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Young and seasoned musicians, classical dancers, and stalwarts pay their respects to Ustadji, and perform during the festival. This year Padmabhushan Begum Parveen Sultana and Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty added their brilliance to the festival.

Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan National Festival of Music & Dance 2022 was held on Saturday 10th December to Sunday 11th December (two days) at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan Auditorium, Kong Koti Road, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad. The program organized in aid of Children with Autism at Autism Ashram has had Begum Parveen Sultana’s enthralling performance on day 1.

The opening performances were Kathak dance by Indrani Chatterjee, disciple of  Pandit Birju Maharaj followed by a beautiful flute performance by Pandit Paramanda Roy, a disciple of Pandit Gopal Roy and descendant of Pandit Pannalan Ghosh. This was followed by presenting the Ustad Bhade Ghulam Ali Khan Annual Music Award was presented to Padmabhushan Begum Parveen Sultana. Sri Jayesh Ranjan, Principle Secretary, Telangana Government presented the award along with Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Chairman, Sangitanjali Foundation.

Parveen Sultanaji  began with a Khayal in Jog raag, and paid her tribute to Ustad Barkat Ali Khan of the Patiala Gharana, younger brother to Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan  – a Thumri in Mishra Pilu – Tum Radhe Bano Shyam. When she shared a few experiences of listening to Ghulam Ali Khan saab as a young kid and shared a few stories about the stalwarts that she heard of – it was quite apt for the audience who came to celebrate the memory of the legend. On popular demand she even sang her very popular RD Burman song Hame Tumse Pyaar Kitna towards the end of amazing concert. 

On Sunday the organisers and musicians visited Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan’s mazar to pay homage to legendary musician. The evening concert started with Anol Bhattacharjee’s vocal concert followed Rupak Bhattacharjee’s solo on Tabla. And then came Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakrabartyji who performed and dazzled the audience.
