Criminal Justice season 4 on Jio Hotstar Criminal Justice banks on Madhav Mishra yet again played amazingly well by Pankaj Tripathi – but minus the quintessential quirks and twists that click – it is any other investigative thriller on OTT
A doctor estranged from his wife and in love with his daughter’s caretaker and long-time girlfriend Roshini ends up getting arrested for her murder. His wife yet to be divorced from her husband hires a lawyer for him. This she does as an act to protect their daughter who is autistic and is missing her father. It also looks like she is believing in her husband’s innocence. But things take a turn for worse when even his wife gets arrested as a co-accused.
The new – season 4th of the popular web series on Jio Hotstar Criminal Justice is about a case in which the members of the doctor’s family are caught up in a murder case. Madhav Mishra who is trying to be a corporate lawyer for the money and is going through a dilemma of people versus corporate money; finds himself in the middle of this complicated case.
He signs up as the defence lawyer for Dr Raj Nagpal – a successful Chief Surgeon who gets caught up in the murder.
During the initial investigation a scalpel is found to be a probable murder weapon, and it also leads to incriminating the doctor’s wife Anju. And the case continues into the 5th episode with each one of the episodes throwing up a new suspect.
Criminal Justice – A Family Affair is also about the other families – senior corporate lawyer Mandira Mathur and her daughter Mini Mathur, who decides to practice with Madhav Mishra against her mother’s wishes, Inspector Gauri and her husband Sr Inspector Harsh Pradhan who are separated but meet over this case.
Incidentally Mandira decides to fight the case for Anju Nagpal, and the Public prosecutor Lekha Agastya played ably by Swetha Basu.
One of the major positives that kept Criminal Justice series going is constant with themes and upgrades in addition to collaborations. Most importantly Pankaj Tripathi in his inimitable style solving cases delivering his dialogues in a very arrestingly caustic manner.
Wonder if it’s too many lawyers coming in and out of the narrative or the repetitive storyline emerging again and again in the script – the latest season of Criminal Justice falls short of the excitement. One hopes that post the not-so-great Episode 5 – the story picks up and justice is eventually served in the quintessential Madhav Mishra style with all the quirks and twists back in the script.
Criminal Justice – A Family Matter series is directed Rohan Sippy and produced Sameer Nair.
