Wings India 2026 showcases landmark announcements, reinforcing India’s ascent as a Global Aviation Powerhouse

Wings India 2026, India’s most prestigious and Asia’s largest civil aviation event, witnessed a series of transformative announcements on its second day at the Skyline Auditorium, Begumpet, underscoring India’s rapid emergence as a global aviation hub spanning manufacturing, connectivity, sustainability, and human capital development.

The major  Industry announcements made were as follows:

Air India announced an additional order of 30 fuel-efficient narrowbody aircrafts from Boeing, taking its total aircraft order book to 600 aircraft, one of the largest globally. In a significant move to enhance operational resilience, Air India also signed a multi-year agreement with Boeing Global Services for its Component Services Program, covering the airline’s entire Boeing 787 fleet, including aircraft on order.

Air India and Airbus signed an agreement to convert 15 A321neo aircraft orders into the advanced A321XLR variant. The A321XLR (Extra Long Range) aircraft will enable Air India to launch new non-stop international routes, strengthening India’s global air connectivity while leveraging superior fuel efficiency and extended range.

Sakthi Group and Omnipol signed a Memorandum of Understanding to introduce the globally proven L410 NG 19-seater aircraft in India.
The agreement includes assessment of modalities for establishing a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in India, marking a significant step towards strengthening indigenous aircraft manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) executed a contract with Pawan Hans Limited (PHL) for the supply of 10 Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters. The agreement marks a major milestone for India’s civil helicopter sector, demonstrating growing confidence in indigenously developed aviation platforms and supporting their wider domestic and international adoption.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) signed a key agreement with Airports Council International (ACI) for the Airports Management Professional Accreditation Program (AMPAP).
Over the next five years, AAI will train more than 115 aviation professionals, creating a globally deployable leadership talent pool and positioning India as a trusted leader in global airport management.

The KPMG–FICCI knowledge report, “Paving the Future of Aviation in Viksit Bharat @ 2047”, was formally released. The report highlights India’s aviation sector as a key driver of economic growth, trade, tourism, and employment, and presents a roadmap for India to transition from being one of the world’s largest aviation markets to a global aviation ecosystem leader. It outlines nine strategic themes to convert India’s scale into sustained global competitiveness.

In his keynote address, Shri Rammohan Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation, highlighted India’s unprecedented aviation growth under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, noting that India is firmly positioned on a path to becoming an integrated, globally influential aviation ecosystem—from design and manufacturing to maintenance, innovation, and sustainability.

“India is no longer just flying aircrafts—we are designing, building and leading global aviation. Indian skies are full of infinite possibilities. From market to maker, India’s aviation ecosystem is taking global leadership flight. India represents the wings of 1.5 billion aspirations,” said Shri Rammohan Naidu while addressing the gathering at the Wings India Excellence Awards presentation.

Shri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, representing the host state, reaffirmed the Government of Telangana’s commitment to strengthen, modernise and expand the foundations of aviation, outlining a bold vision to make Telangana a leading aero-engine and MRO hub by 2047.

Stressing that aviation is built on “passengers’ invisible trust in aircraft and the machines that connect nations,” he noted that manufacturing, innovation and maintenance form the cornerstone of Telangana’s aviation strategy.
Highlighting sustainability, he stated that “the future of aviation will be green,” citing Hyderabad airport’s operation on 100% renewable energy as a strong example of the state’s forward-looking approach. He added that Telangana is fast emerging as an ecosystem where ideas meet skills, positioning the state as a global aviation leader.

The awards celebrated excellence and leadership that are shaping the future of India’s aviation sector.
