Court Vs A Nobody produced by Wall Poster Cinema is a well crafted coming together
of interestingly defined characters, a beautiful love story of two teenagers, and
an engaging court scene writes Rajeshwari Kalyanam
Court – From national award-winning films like the Marathi film ‘Court’ and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Pink’ – “Vakeel Saab’ in Telugu to several films from the past in various languages – whenever they fell back on a well-crafted court room drama they had a winner on hand.
So, when Nani’s Wall Poster Cinema (with a good track record so far) bank rolled ‘Court vs. A Nobody’’ with two endearingly appealing young actors alongside the now seasoned actor with a comedy touch, Priyadarshi to handle the court proceedings for the lawyer’s role – it does raise expectations. Nani did mention in his promotions not to watch his next film – Hit 3 if the audience is not impressed with Court.
And impressed we are – be it the packaging of the film into a coming together of well-defined characters, each with a story of their own, adding a dash of romance with a beautiful love story of two teenagers, and then guiding the film towards an engaging court scene that takes up most of the second half.

Chandu (Harsh Roshan) is a youngster (a major at that) who falls in love with Jabili (Sridevi) who is 17 years old. It is an innocent love story between two young peopl. One who does part time jobs for a living and saves money for his dream, and the girl who comes from a strict household controlled by her uncle, who is judgemental about how girls should behave, dress etc. Played by Sivaji – Mangapathi is unscrupulous when it comes to targeting people who he thinks has done anything remotely damaging to his pride and prestige. He doesn’t wink before going to the extent of falsely slapping them with serious charges, and get them jailed.
Evidently when he knows of the love story between his niece and Chandu – he gets a lawyer (Harshvardhan) to charge Chandu with every kind of harassment charges and book him under the much serious POCSO (the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
With much manipulation the lawyer almost succeeds in getting Chandu jailed for a minimum of 14 years, before Teja (Priyadarshi) who is still assisting his senior (Sai Kumar) – decides to help Chandu and his family.
While the rest of the story is about how Teja wins the case – no surprises there – the film Court vs. Nobody is also a commentary on how the powerful and rich intimidate the poor and the weak, and most importantly on the need to educate people on laws that matter to them.
For most part the film moves ahead at a good pace, with perfect balance of sentiment, romance and fun, and a lengthy court scene that holds attention of the audience. If there is a complaint – it is just that the second half could have used some complexity – it was an easy win one felt. However, that doesn’t affect the film much.
The cast both young and experienced delivered their best. A special mention must be made of Harsh Roshan and Sridevi who stole the show in the first half. Music by Vijay Bulganin who is known for his hit music in Baby gave good hummable numbers for this film as well in addition to non–intrusive background score that aided the flawless narration. Debut director Ram Jagadeesh created a good film that banks on the often-repeated premise but with a touch of novelty that appeals to younger audience and family audience as well.
