Inspiration for the story of Gandeevadhari Arjuna

What was happening around the world during the Covid times gave the context to write the script. The world shut down during Covid and we gave space for earth to breathe. We heard stories about how in Jalandhar air was cleaner and we could see bluer skies. However, post Covid everyone started to feel like we have to live life, flights have become expensive, and people started to travel extensively – it has become counter-productive. Resources are finite and we are using them uoas if they are infinite without thinking of future generations.

In 2020 December there was a study which said man has surpassed nature in creating junk. The industrial revolution happened 100 – 150 years ago and within this period we gave managed to create so much junk that it is astonishing.

There is garbage / platic pile of the size of Texas floating in Pacific Ocean. We are all oblivious to these things and I wanted to talk about these issues with the help of an engaging film. SO, I took action as the foreground and climate as the background. The story unfolds in the backdrop of climate Change Summit in UK.

Preference for Action Genre

I love writing and making action films. But I have made other genres – I have made Guntur Talkies, which is a crime comedy, Chandamama Kathalu which won national award, I made LBW – a love story. But this is the third action film, so may be its time I shifted the genre.

Shooting Action with Real Guns

I like authenticity in holding guns and body language and physics during action scenes. I grew up watching films with no physics – So, when I shoot a scene, I always check if I would accept this. Fortunately for me these kind of action films are not made here. That sets me apart, which is also what I like to do and it falls in place. It’s a win-win situation.

On Lukewarm Response for Ghost

Ghost is a different genre film. It is a stylish entertainer. I don’t think it’s a bad film. It may not be a great film. Ghost does not have a story and people expect content-oriented films from me, which could be the reason it did nit do well. It could be anything – timing of release, socio economic situation at the time, or mindset of people.

Shooting with Varun Tej

With Varun I had fun shooting. It was a bliss to work with him. I would love to work with him in every film – it is that much I love him.

I do not have a lot of friends and I do not socialise. And, so with every film when I had to work with heroes, it was taxing to get to know them. Varun and I kind of vibed from word go. I understand him and he knows where I come from. Our sensibilities and temper are similar – it is very rare to have that connect. Varun brings in 100 percent to every scene. In action sequences his muscle memory is brilliant.

He is playing body guard he has to look suave, he needs to wear suits, well versed with weapons, and combat – and it was a conscious decision where he had to cut down lot of weight and become lean.

Research for the Gandeevadhari Arjuna

There was a lot of research, analysis and analytics of what’s happening in the world that was involved in the film making.

For example, every country has a carbon cap – based on size and population. And, developed nations like America always exceed their limit and buy carbon cap from third world countries in Africa. US has used these countries as testing ground for its nuclear tests. The challenge was to present it in a way it’s not censored and is cinematic.

Five Things audience can expect from Gadeevadhari Arjuna

  1. The Issue that we are talking about that is relevant to each and every one – urban and rural audience alike. We are talking about carbon footprint. We are all responsible. We are taking about what we are taking from earth and what we are giving back.
  2. Characters – Every character is important in the film. The story doesn’t revolve around Varun alone. Audience will see how strong these characters are, where they come from and the part they play in the story.
  3. Mickey J Meyer’s background score – He has never done an action genre before. This is his first. You must look out for his score.
  4. Varun- He looks like the role is tailor made for him. He is that intense. He became the character.
  5. The emotions in the film- There are multiple range of emotions and that will be captivating.
