“When NEET was cancelled, I was boarding a flight to China”- NEET aspirant talks about his experience this year

1. How long have you been preparing for NEET?

A. My name is Devesh Agrawal, and I started my NEET preparation in Class 9 when I joined a foundation course. I continued the course for the next two years. After my Class 10 board exams, I joined Motion College because it was close to my house and helped me save time on travelling. However, the institute later closed down, so I joined Aakash Institute in Class 12. During this time, I mainly followed a strict self-study schedule and did not attend regular classes. I used Aakash mostly for its tests and assessments to track my preparation and improve my performance.

2. What sacrifices did you have to make during this journey?

A. One of the biggest sacrifices I had to make during my NEET preparation was giving up most of my social life. Over the years, I spent so much time studying that I rarely got the chance to meet or spend time with my friends. As everyone got busier with their own lives, I gradually lost touch with many of them and ended up losing several close connections. There were times when it felt isolating, especially when I had to miss outings, celebrations, and simple moments that my friends shared together. Looking back, this was one of the hardest parts of the journey, but it was a sacrifice I made in order to stay focused on my goal.

3. How was your Re-NEET exam paper? Was it easier in comparison to the previous paper you appeared for this year?

A. The Re-NEET paper was way more difficult than the previous paper. There was almost a 360 degree flip in the difficulty levels of the two papers. Physics was the hardest subject and the level was in my opinion harder than any paper before this, chemistry was slightly easier however the questions were tricky and required a really good grasp of concepts to solve. Bio was the easiest and was the most scoring subject

4. What was your reaction when you heard that the NEET exam will be reconducted this year?

A. When NEET was cancelled I was going to board a flight to Delhi. I was sitting in the airport about to go on a 3 week vacation to China, my first international trip. A friend of mine called me telling me NEET got cancelled and the exam would be reconducted without the date of the exam released we had to make the discussion of cancel the trip, I didn’t realize at that moment what the exam getting cancelled would mean to me since we were in the rush of deciding whether or not we should leave the sudden panic and chaos that broke out made the situation even worse, after finally coming home is when it struck me that i would have to redo my preparation and the fact that previous attempt and all the hard work behind neet had just been lost.

5. Who, in your opinion, is responsible for this?

A. I hold NTA entirely responsible for what happened , the fact that just a big exam of such importance was just casually leaked just doesn’t make sense the first few days of restarting my preparation for Re-NEET, I was just mad and tired, thoughts like two years of my sacrifice and hard work were gone away in a matter of few minutes is all what was going around in my head. After about two to three days all of this overthinking left me with nothing. I slowly restarted my preparation just wanting to be done with this one set for all.

6. What do you think is the solution for this to not repeat again?

A. I think that neet becoming online would be the one solution to this problem. A system similar to jee might work. Online papers are easy to regulate and control also.
